Technological investments in Poland – Callstack attracts American capital

Polish tech company Callstack has secured a strategic investor from the United States. The Viking Global Investors fund has acquired a majority stake, valuing the Wrocław-based firm at approximately PLN 500 million. This is one of the most notable developments in the technological investments market in Poland in recent years.

Technological expertise with global reach

For nearly a decade, Callstack has been building a strong position in the niche field of React Native — a technology that enables the development of mobile applications across multiple platforms. The company not only delivers solutions for international clients but also develops open-source libraries that have already been downloaded over 20 million times.

This profile has attracted the interest of Viking Global Investors — a US-based fund managing assets exceeding USD 50 billion. It is the first time an investor of this scale has acquired a majority stake in a software company from Central and Eastern Europe.

Transaction structure and new stage of leadership

Under the signed agreement, the existing shareholders — Anna Lankauf, Piotr Karwatka, and Tomasz Karwatka — sold their shares to the fund. Operational leadership remains with Mike Grabowski (CTO and co-founder of Callstack) and Kris Lis (CEO). Both will continue to lead the company in close cooperation with the investor, who brings not only capital but also global experience in scaling technology businesses.

“Building Callstack from scratch and leading it to become one of the global leaders in React Native within just nine years was an extraordinary life adventure for me. I am immensely proud of the team we built and of our uncompromising pursuit of quality. We proved that a Polish company can set directions in global technological innovation without taking shortcuts.” said Anna Lankauf.

Technological investments in Poland enter a mature phase

From the outset, Callstack has operated on the international market. As Lankauf emphasises, building competitiveness from Poland for the demanding US market was a challenge — but it turned out to be achievable, even for a company outside the traditional tech hubs.

“From the beginning, we provided services to international clients. Building competitiveness in such a demanding market is a challenge, but we’ve shown that it is possible even from the banks of the Oder. We proved that Polish companies, which are excellent in other technologies, can also achieve global success.” she added.

Viking’s investment in Callstack not only confirms the value of the company but also signals a broader trend. For investors already active in Poland, this is a case in point that the local market can generate innovation worth international capital engagement. For international funds, it demonstrates that technological investments in Poland are increasingly well-founded and carry tangible growth potential.

Growth potential and sector inspiration

The newly acquired capital will be used to expand Callstack’s product offering, strengthen its position in key markets, and drive further investment in innovation. This is also a pivotal moment in which the company may serve as a role model for other Polish firms aiming for international expansion.

Poland as a destination for technology capital

For businesses already operating in Poland — and for foreign investors eyeing the region — the Callstack–Viking transaction may serve as a reference point. It shows that Poland is not only growing in terms of technological expertise but also in business culture, transparency, and readiness for strategic partnerships with international investors.

Well-prepared and specialised companies in Poland are now able not only to attract foreign capital but also to maintain direction and scale globally — without needing to relocate or compromise their identity.

Key insight for investors: Poland today is more than an emerging market. It is a country where technological investments translate into real business value — for local entrepreneurs and international investors alike.
